In order for us to diagnose and treat the complaint, all patients must first undertake an initial consultation. This consists of a case history being taken so that we may establish a clear picture of the patient's medical history and their past and current state of health. We also wish to ensure that there are no contraindications to treatment and that if any cautions are highlighted, that we take the appropriate course of action to ensure the patient's safety at all times. We will also adapt any treatment techniques to suit the patients' needs.
**It is important to note that, in a few cases, referrals may need to be made to the patient's GP or for an MRI scan if something more serious is suspected. It is important to note that any referrals made are done so to ensure the utmost safety, health and well-being of the patient**
Following this, an assessment of the patient's movement and pain will be undertaken to aid diagnosis and to also help the patients understand the mechanism(s) of their pain. Using all information gathered from the case history and movement assessment, a suitable treatment plan will be created and performed. This will be supported with exercise prescription and a rehabilitation plan, plus any other advice that may be useful in the patient's recovery.
Methods employed to help treat these conditions include but are not limited to: -
- Soft tissue techniques
- Myofascial release techniques
- Muscle inhibition
- Manipulation of joints
- Muscle energy techniques
- Dry-needling
- Taping
- Stretching
- Exercise prescription
- General health and nutritional advice
