Profile

The Phoenix Theatre, an iconic establishment in London's renowned West End theatre district since 1930, has a rich history of hosting a variety of performances. Its current run of Tennessee Williams' classic play, A Streetcar Named Desire, continues to captivate audiences. However, in late 2023, the theatre is set to welcome a brand new show to its stage: the world premiere of Stranger Things: The First Shadow.

The theatre's neoclassical exterior and ornate interior, modelled on traditional Italian theatre design, have been admired for over 90 years. Its red seats, golden engravings, and decorated ceilings offer a grand and luxurious experience for theatre-goers. Many renowned performers have graced the Phoenix Theatre stage, including Laurence Olivier and Cuba Gooding Jr.

The Phoenix Theatre has been home to a plethora of successful plays and musicals over the years. It has hosted everything from the acclaimed Love for Love by John Gielgud to the delightful Into the Woods starring Julia McEnzie. However, one of its most significant productions was the musical Blood Brothers, which ran from 1991 to 2013 and became the theatre's longest-running show.

As the theatre approaches its centenary, it continues to attract exciting new productions. Stranger Things: The First Shadow, based on the popular Netflix series, promises to be a highlight of the Phoenix Theatre's illustrious history. With its grandeur and theatrical charm, the theatre is sure to provide the perfect setting for this highly anticipated stage show from the original creators of the TV series.
