There are two sorts: 1) Property and Financial Affairs 2) Health and Welfare They allow you to appoint people YOU chose to make decisions for you when you can't (Health and Welfare) or when you choose - Finance. The alternative if you are unable to make decisions is for the Court of Protection to apoint a DEPUTY to make them. That COULD be a spouse or child, but it may be a solicitor. Make your choice with Lasting Powers of Attoney, don't leave it too late!
