LED Lighting

Energy Efficient Lighting; Light Emitting Diode (LED) and compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) have revolutionized energy efficient lighting. Electric lighting burns up to 8% of the average home energy budget and the electricity used over the lifetime of a single incandescent bulb costs 5 to 10 times the original purchase price of the bulb itself. Light Emitting Diode (LED) and compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) have revolutionized energy efficient lighting. CFLs are simply miniature versions of full-sized fluorescents. They screw into standard lamp sockets, and give off light that looks similar to the common incandescent bulbs not like the fluorescent lighting we associate with factories and schools.

LEDs are small, very energy efficient solid bulbs. New LED bulbs are grouped in clusters with diffuser lenses which have broadened the applications for LED use in the home. LED technology is advancing rapidly, with many new bulb styles available.

Reasons to Choose LED:

Long-lasting LED bulbs last up to 10 times as long as compact fluorescent, and far longer than typical incandescents.
Durable since LEDs do not have a filament, they are not damaged under circumstances when a regular incandescent bulb would be broken.
Cool these bulbs do not cause heat build-up; LEDs produce 3.4 bts/hour, compared to 85 for incandescent bulbs.
Mercury-free no mercury is used in the manufacturing of LEDs.
More efficient LED light bulbs use only 2-17 watts of electricity (1/3rd to 1/30th of Incandescent or CFL).
Cost-effective although LEDs are initially expensive, the cost is recouped over time and in battery savings.
Light for remote areas and portable generators because of the low power requirement for LEDs, using solar panels becomes more practical and less expensive than running an electric line or using a generator for lighting in remote or off-grid areas. LED light bulbs are also ideal for use with small portable generators which homeowners use for backup power in emergencies.
We can help to enhance your indoor and outdoor environment with superb energy efficient lighting systems. Ask us for a free appointment to discuss LED lighting for your home or garden. Call us today on 01884 235800.

NICEIC Approved Contractor Testing & Inspection

Periodic Inspection Report
All electrical installations deteriorate with age and use, so SOL Electrical Ltd offers a comprehensive periodic inspection report service to check whether your electrics are in a satisfactory condition for continued service.

A periodic inspection will:

Reveal if any of your electrical circuits or equipment are overloaded.
Find any potential electric shock risks and fire hazards.
Identify any defective electrical work.
Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding.
Tests are also carried out on wiring and fixed electrical equipment to check that they are safe. A schedule of circuits is also provided, which is invaluable for a property.

How often is a periodic inspection report required?

Your electrics should be inspected and tested every:

10 years for an owner-occupied home
5 years for a rented home
5 years for commercial premises
3 years for a caravan
1 year for a swimming pool
Other times when a periodic inspection should be carried out are:

When a property is being prepared for letting.
Before selling a property or buying a previously-occupied property.

G59 Testing

SOL Electrical offers both G59 testing and manufacture of bespoke G59 protection relay panels, using components from industry leader Comap. ComAp mains protections are precise and effective protection relays with user-friendly interface and intuitive operation.

What is G59?

Engineering Recommendation G59 regulates the connection of larger embedded generation devices to the National Grid and is relevant for all power generation greater than 16A per phase. For anything below this the Engineering recommendation G83/2 applies.

Why is G59 protection needed?

The main reason for the G59 recommendation is to regulate generator applications, so that no generators are connected to the grid without the specific knowledge and permission of the local electricity authority. The principle reason for this is to prevent the embedded generator from sending electricity out onto the National Grid in a dangerous manner. A G59 relay protective device prevents this situation by automatically disconnecting the embedded generator from the mains.

SOL Electrical offer all aspects of G59 testing. Please contact us with your requirements.
