Profile

Slough Cricket Club.

1999 saw Slough Cricket Club celebrate its 150th anniversary and also play its 100th, and final season at Chalvey Road East.

The new millennium marked the start of a new era for Slough CC. Not only did we move in to our purpose-built new home in Upton Court Park but we also took our place in the new Home Counties Premier League (West Division). The league forms part of the reorganisation of English cricket implemented by the English Cricket Board. It represented a step up the ladder for our club and put Slough amongst the elite clubs in the South of England.

Slough Cricket Club has been at the forefront of cricket in the Thames Valley since it moved to Chalvey Road in 1899. It joined the Thames Valley League on its inception in 1972 and has remained in the top division ever since.

Slough C. C. has produced many fine players over the years, one of which is Ian Gould. Ian played for Middlesex and captained Sussex after learning his trade at Slough and went on to represent England in the one-day game. He briefly took on the role of chairman following the retirement of Eddie Thompson in 2000. Eddie stood down after 13 years in the job and was the man responsible for overseeing the construction of the new ground. The current chairman, Tony Ellis, has returned to the role having served previously for a number of years and brings with him some much needed discipline and direction following the departure of Ian Gould at the end of the 2001 season.

Our future home at the eastern end of Upton Court Park (adjacent to Slough Rugby Club) comprises two cricket pitches, a football pitch, training facilities and a state of the art 2 storey clubhouse. The 1st XI square is of county standard enabling us to continue hosting the many representative games we had at Chalvey Road. The 3rd XI square incorporates an artificial wicket ensuring that cricket can carry on in inclement weather. It is hoped that this square will be utilised by local companies/organisations and thus encourage the local community also to benefit from our magnificent new ground. The football pitch, like the cricket pitches, will be of the highest standard. Cippenham United FC and Slough Ladies FC are joining forces with us for the winter months and whilst they will have first use of the pitch it will also be available for hire.
