About Us

Adoption touches the lives of one in four people in the UK. After Adoption is a voluntary adoption agency and independent adoption support charity dedicated to helping 8,000 children and adults per year from all walks of life deal with the difference adoption brings to their lives.

We offer independent services that support individuals and families at any stage of their adoption journey, acknowledging that this is lifelong.

Our Services

After Adoption is a voluntary adoption agency working throughout England and Wales to help all those affected by adoption. From placing children with adoptive parents to supporting birth families and reuniting families separated through adoption, we can work with all groups of people affected by adoption.

Over the past twenty years, we have pioneered work with birth mothers in prison, search and reunion services and work with adopted young people.

Adoption has a huge impact on both individuals, their families and the society we live in. Done well, it can transform the lives of children in the care system and give them the opportunity to reach their full potential as adults.

Finding Families For Children

When we find the right family for a child in the care system, it changes the way they grow up, how they succeed at school and the part they play in society as an adult. We have developed successful models of recruitment and family finding, and as a result are seeing growth rates of over 50% in both prospective adopters and local authorities partnering with us.

Supporting The Wider Family and Reuniting Family Members

From our roots providing adoption support, we understand the lifelong impact of adoption and the impact on the wider birth family. By supporting birth parents who have lost children to adoption we help maintain contact with their child, providing the information their child needs to understand who they are. We help adults find out more about their own background, and trace and reunite family members separated by adoption.
