Trading since the spring of 2004 and celebrating their "Eleventh Year Anniversary" in 2015, Essence of Eden has a lot to be proud of. They were recently selected as a Finalist in the Quality Food Awards and also received a Gold Award in the Organic Food Awards. Add this to their existing level of awards for product quality, consistency of supply and customer service all add up to an exceptional little company.

This year was no exception"

With over 1000 products submitted and over a 100 judges, the QFA is a record breaker! This award process is not a blind tasting session, but an analysis of the whole product. Value for money, quality of product, packaging, labelling and those that meet customer demand in all aspects. The awards now in their 40th year are well placed to make such judgements.

The Organic Food Awards and the Free From Food Awards are run as blind tasting sessions, which are most useful.

This process is conducted via a panel of judges who do not know which company is behind the product they are tasting until all is revealed and Essence of Eden have been awarded a total of five awards to date, the only coconut oil to do so. In 2004 when Essence of Eden was born, it was out of sheer desperation to have access to a top quality oil as what was available was gravely below standard, even though top prices were applied. It made it very difficult to determine top quality oil from those that were being made available as a food. With blind tasting awards it put a stop to that scenario.

And although Essence of Eden do not have the Fair Trade logo they are Fairly Traded as the price paid is above and beyond required by Fair Trade.

So all this started with a prolonged episode of sensitive teeth and trying desperately to find something that would work permanently without any ill side effects. After years of painful teeth, not being able to bite down or suffer cold and hot liquids, the solution was so simple. Coconut Oil. And so our journey began...On visiting abroad, I came across Coconut Oil as a relief to sensitive teeth. Buying up as much as I could carry back to the UK, I enjoyed a pain free existence until it ran out of course. Not being concerned a visit was made to the local health food store to purchase a replacement. What was available was horrific. It made me physically ill. Therefore many more stores were visited on a quest to find one that would work and be palatable.

Needless to say, it was a fruitless task and so our journey took its first turn. We made direct contact with the farmer and negotiated a deal. But the minimum order was huge. Undeterred and desperate, the deal was done. But what does one do with all this oil with a Best Before Date, once you have supplied family and friends and extended relatives? You can't possibly use it all. And so the next turn took place. Approaching those who had supplied us our fateful pots of oil soon became our regular customers themselves and so we took off.

If it was known, what is known now, coconut oil would have been a mainstay in our family diet long before. Long gone are the days of aching joints in particular knees and thumbs, no longer are the eye drops a part of daily routine. Overall health improvement and inner warmth are much appreciated. On top of all this, receiving the testimonials that we do from customers who likewise suffered have made the whole journey an extremely satisfying one. If only more people could know of this simple solution then maybe we would be as healthy as those in the micro islands who have exquisite dental health and cancers are unheard of due to a diet rich in coconut... A true heritage for Health.

The Future

Product innovation is our next step. In fact our proto type product was tested and sold out. Our Sheer Indulgence Aroma Oil. Now in negotiations with another company that have approached us to formulate this same product to a different market and we hope to be ready early next year.
