About Us...

The company was formed in 1983 in Gillingham by Allen Fry, who sold the business to Chris Coward in Mere. Chris consolidated the firm and renamed it Gillingham & Mere Cars.

In 2001 when Chris retired he sold the company to Eddie Long who had driven for Chris for many years. Eddie moved the base to his home. When he decided to take a backseat in 2010, the company was sold to Philippa (Pip) & Ian Bristol. Until recently, Eddie remained a stalwart feature of the firm, serving the local trade, and was a great favourite with our customers. Sadly, he has now retired, along with the 806 he loved to drive.

We are also sad to say that we lost Eddie in the early summer of 2014 when he passed away (still wearing his Gillingham & Mere uniform) and will be sadly missed by all.

We pride ourselves on the quality and service our drivers provide who are mainly retired or semi-retired professionals. In addition to owning the firm, Pip also drives for the company, so a female driver is available.
