Business Northumberland Service Success with Educational Theatre Start-Up
Former teacher and trainer Lynda Dixon (of Pegswood, Morpeth) was considering buying into a franchise to follow her dream of running after-school drama programmes, but after free advice and assistance from Business Northumberland, is now on track to launch her own business.
With a background teaching drama and social skills in prisons to 15 to 18 year-olds, Lynda wanted to create drama programmes for after-school groups that encourage learning and key stage attainment in a fun, non-academic environment for children aged five and upwards.
Lynda received free advice from experienced Business Northumberland adviser Paul Brown in two in-depth one-to-one sessions at the Ashington Workpsace, in which she developed a business plan and identified key opportunities. Her background in marketing and business development as well as education led Paul to suggest that she had enough experience to set up her own business.

Linchpin PA, a start-up business providing virtual personal assistant services has achieved commercial success with the help of Business Northumberland.
Business founder Anne Williams, based near Ponteland, launched the business when she was made redundant in 2011 after a long and successful secretarial career. After difficulties finding work she discovered the virtual PA industry, and with the help of Business Northumberland has turned her start-up into a successful and fulfilling venture.
Anne said; “For the first time in my life I found it difficult to find work, which I’m sure was largely down to my age, but when I came across the virtual assistant industry it seemed like the natural choice to set up my own company. I absolutely love it, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done and I wish I had done it sooner!”
