Docucheck.com is a lone wolf gun-slinger in the world of proofreading except we have magnifying glasses in place of guns and instead of bullets we have… eyes.


Despite the serial killer overtone of the above sentence we’re actually a very respectable company based in Nottingham, England. We’re a subsidiary of Omega Editing and our Captain/Managing Director, Adam O’Connell, formed it because of his own difficulties in finding affordable proofreading for his novel.


All our editors are native English speakers educated to degree level many beyond. Each of them has many years proofreading experience several of them even now work in the publishing industry or higher education.

Process

Stage One:
You go to our snazzy order window and attach your document along with your payment details. As soon as they are both accepted, your document is automatically emailed to a handler.
Stage Two:
The handler gives it a quick read and then gets in touch with a freelancer who they think will be best for the job.
Stage Three:
After the freelancer agrees to take the job it’s emailed to them and is then opened in MS Word.
Stage Four:
Whilst the document is proofread a special feature in MS Word called ‘Track Changes’ is turned on and it records every change the freelancer makes in red type. The freelancer will check for the following things:
Spelling and/or typing mistakes
Punctuation and hyphenation errors
Poorly presented text on the page
Consistency of the layout
Correct page references
Stage Five:
When the freelancer is finished they will email two copies of the work to the handler. One with all the edits shown in Track Changes, highlighting all the changes, and another ‘ready to print’ copy with all the changes accepted.
Stage Six:
The handler checks for any mistakes and if they're satisfied it is emailed back to the client. Return time depends on length of document.
Stage Seven:
You receive your document. So amazed are you by it's brilliance you dance for joy and promise yourself to be a better person, to take time to enjoy the little things, to be kind to others... possibly starting by leaving nice feedback for those lovely proofreading people?
