About Us...

Welcome to our school which I hope will provide you with an insight into life at Upton Hall School FCJ.

We are proud to be members of this community, which includes pupils present and past, staff, parents and governors.

Our extended community includes all those who work alongside us locally and internationally. At Upton we try to live according to our motto “Age quod agis”, which means “Do what you are doing”.

For us this implies whatever we are doing should be done to the very best of our ability: with our whole mind, heart and spirit for our own sake, for that of the wider community and to give glory to God.

Upton Hall School FCJ is a Roman Catholic Grammar School for girls aged 11-18. It is situated in the Diocese of Shrewsbury under the Trusteeship of the Society of the Faithful Companions of Jesus, FCJ. The school has academy status.

We have more than 950 pupils, over 200 of whom are members of our flourishing Sixth Form. We welcome applications from all motivated students for places in our Sixth Form.

Academic excellence is highly valued, with each pupil encouraged to develop her own talents to the best of her ability for her own sake and so that she can help to make the world a better place.

Upton was judged by Ofsted to be outstanding school in the full inspection that took place in October 2006 and again in January 2009 when Ofsted undertook a survey inspection. The school has three specialisms: Technology College, Language College and Training School. In addition to these we have full International School status in recognition of the work undertaken not only by the Languages Faculty but also in all curriculum areas to promote a knowledge and understanding of other places and cultures. We are proud to work with the Prince’s Teaching Institute and teaching staff in English, Science, Mathematics, Geography and History are working with the Institute to promote excellence.

Students at Upton Hall School travelled to Almansa, Spain last week as part of their involvement in the Comenius ‘Finding your Voice Project’. Earlier in the year, the cohort from seven European and European Econommic Area Countries travelled to the UK and visited Wallasey Town Hall and Westminster in a bid to learn more about democracy in Britain. During the visit to Spain, involving; UK, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Slovenia, Romania and Turkey, the students and teachers visited the Regional Parliament of Castilla La Mancha (House of Castille) and were featured on the local news, almansatv. The Governors of Upton Hall School are an important team of people drawn from all walks of life and including parents, staff and Local Authority representatives, whose role is both to monitor school performance and activities and provide opinion and guidance on school policy and direction.
