Welcome To Hope Housing Training and Support Ltd

Hope Housing Training and Support Ltd was launched in 2009 to protect the vulnerable in Bournemouth. Hope is supported housing for single homeless individuals. We also provide training and education to our residents to enable them to move forward into independent living i.e. non-supported accommodation and seeking employment.

We currently house 80 vulnerable people with multiple issues including:

Homelessness, ex-offenders, foster care / lack of adhesion with family, drug and alcohol abuse, unemployment and mental health problems i.e. depression and anxiety.

Our Services

Our clients are offered 1:1 support from our trained counselling and support staff who do a fantastic job in helping them overcome the many personal issues they face. We also help our residents with budgeting skills, applying for funds, claiming benefits that they are entitled to as well other ad hoc issues that are unique to the individual. We have a large garden area which we encourage residents to maintain and grow fruit and vegetables which they are able to harvest. We have a gym within our flagship site 'St Johns Lodge' that enables clients to exercise, decrease stress levels and improve their health. Additionally we have recently purchased a mini bus which provides clients with transport necessary to connect them to and benefit from the local community i.e. Dorset Jurassic Coast, museums, football courts and training seminars. Where an individual's needs cannot be met by our services we signpost them to other agencies within the local community that are able to provide assistance that meets the client's needs.

Housing Support

One-to-one sessions are conducted by a designated support worker who is experienced in working with this client group. During the first session, the support worker completes a 'needs assessment' with the individual. This will identify their needs and how they would like to go about fulfilling them. Short, medium and long-term goals are also discussed in order to construct a support plan for the individual which will signpost the individual to the relevant services including benefits, housing, probation, primary health care, drug and alcohol services, education and training. Many of our clients attend Bournemouth and Poole College to complete the 'Progress' and 'Directions' courses. These courses provide access to further education, last for ten weeks each and are free to those who are on benefits. Individuals we support may also access the 'Ignite' project, which is beneficial for those who are getting closer to returning to work. The project includes advice on filling out job applications, building a CV, practicing interview techniques, and improving self-esteem. Housing in Bournemouth benefits from many local Fellowship meetings. AA, NA and OA are all well represented. There are also local drug and alcohol services. Support workers can help with all relevant forms for benefits including housing benefits, DWP forms, social fund loans and grants, and medical questionnaires. The support workers can also attend medicals or initial meetings with other agencies if the individual wishes to do so. The support worker will carry out a house meeting at the individuals' houses once a fortnight which provides an opportunity for them to discuss any issues that have arisen in the house such as maintenance, health and safety.
