Kernaglee Electrical Services Ltd was founded primarily as an electrical contracting operation, with a focus on prestige commercial installations. With interests in the energy sector, KES Ltd were always keen to promote energy saving technologies, we were one of the early protagonists of LED lighting and more recently Solar Photovoltaics. The success of our company has had in the Solar PV market resulted in the birth of KES Solar. What is Solar PV?


Solar Photovoltaic (PV) is a technology whereby daylight is converted to electricity for use around the home or business. PV is not a new technology, but the advances in the materials and equipment over the last ten years have made current product offerings ultra efficient and vitally available at a price point that makes Solar PV available to everyone.

Buy your own system - where the client receives all the benefits associated with a PV system.
The free solar option - where a client does not have the initial capital outlay buy still saves on their electricity bill.

How Solar PV Works

Panels

Photons from sunlight hit the surface of the panel and cause a current to flow. Panels come in various different wattages and from a wide variety of manufacturers. They are connected together by wires to form a 'string'.

Inverter

Converts the DC electricity from the panels into AC power that can be used around the home or business.

Generation/Credit Meter

This component keeps count of all the units that are generated by the solar array. These attract payments known as ROCs, which are paid purely for generating 'green' electricity.

Fuse Board/Consumer Unit

It is at this point that the electricity that is generated is consumed by the property. If there is a surplus of electricity- it is sold back to the grid.

Mains Electricity Meter

At this point, a new 'import/export meter' is fitted by NIE. This is able to calculate the amount of electricity that is exported to the grid from the PV array, as well as the amount that has to be 'bought in' to make up any deficit.
