Wado Karate in Sussex

Zanshin Wado-ryu is a small, friendly and traditional Wado-Ryu Karate club providing a high standard of training and support to students of all ages starting from ages 8 years onwards. The club caters for a wide range of ability levels. Clubs are run in both Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath

The club's syllabus comprises of the traditional karate practises of Kata (formal exercise), Kumite (sparring) and Kihon (fundamental techniques) within a framework of physical & mental fitness, flexibility and fun.

Sensei Gary 8th Dan demonstrating on Sensei Robbie - artistically ;-)The name Wado-ryu has three components - Wa means "harmony", Do means "way" and Ryu means "style". The discipline was founded by Hironori Otsuka (1892 - 1982) 10th Dan who opened his first karate school in 1934, blending Shotokan with Shindo Yoshin-ryu.

Zanshin is affiliated to British Wadokai, a group with foundations that were established in 1976. The Kyu grade syllabus has remained almost unchanged since the first introduction of Wado-Ryu into the UK by Suzuki Tatsuo 8th Dan Hanshi in 1964.

Session Times & Locations

Tuesday
7pm - 8pm - Starting 5th April 2016, this new class in Haywards Heath is open to all grades and ages (8 yrs old and above). Due to booking conflicts, see website for exemption dates.

Friday
6.15pm - 7.15pm - This is a general training session for all grades and ages (8 yrs old and above).
7:15pm - 8:15pm - Reopening as of 1st April 2016, this is an intermediate class, open to 6th Kyu and over OR by invitation.

Tuesday sessions are in the main hall at:
Redwood Centre (Age UK) (next door to Clair Hall)

Friday sessions are in the gymnasium of:
Oakmeeds Community College
Station Road,
Burgess Hill,
West Sussex,
RH15 9EA.

Our single classes are £3.50 (under 16's), £4.00 (over 16's) and families of 3 train for £10.
Friday night double classes are £5.00 (under 16's) and £6.00 (over 16's), and families of 3 are £14.
