Safety Information
After a chimney has been swept we will leave you with a NACS certificate to the homeowner or the tenant confirming the chimney has been swept in accordance with NACS code of practice. NACS insurance certificate to be kept with house insurance. All homes with real fires should be swept at least once a year in accordance with house insurance policies.

The certificate is recognised by insurance companies, local councils and housing associations.

Chimney Maintenance

How often a chimney should be swept depends on the type of fuel.

• Smokeless fuels: At least once a year
• Bituminous Coal: At least twice a year
• Wood: Quarterly (when in use)
• Oil: Once a year
• Gas: Once a year - A Gas Safe registered engineer must carry out work on gas appliances

What Causes Fires in Chimneys?
Chimney fires can occur when the flues have deposits left in them. A chimney fire is the soot or creosote burning inside the appliance outlet or flue which can make the appliance not function correctly. It can cause damage to the appliance, the chimney or the house.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
All the chimney and flues should be checked at least once a year to make sure they are clear and in working order.

A blocked chimney can cause both carbon monoxide poisoning or chimney fires. It is therefore important to to have a NACS certified chimney sweep visit regularly.
