Hi we're Emily and Rich and this is the story of Rooted Together....

In May 2014 we got married in a small, intimate ceremony and in August of the same year we welcomed our first little bundle of joy into our lives. The arrival of our beautiful daughter was not quite how we planned, it was very long, it was not at home, involved a lot of interventions and was very distressing. We were back and forth to the hospital for tests and treatments and our introduction to parenthood was nothing like the romantic picture often painted.....and it didn't seem to improve!!

Mothers instinct told Emily that there was something not right with her baby, but her concerns were put down to first time Mum worries. Until one trip to the emergency GP, a referral to hospital and a diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia with Monosomy 7 (a rare form of Leukaemia). Being told your 9 month old baby is most likely going to die, changes you as a person.....your whole life is flipped upside down and you enter survival mode. Also finding out you are pregnant with your second baby at the same time adds a whole other dimension to the journey!! Our little miracle girl went through intense treatments that would have floored an adult, let alone a baby. But she fought and we fought and she defied everything to stick 2 fingers up at that beastly disease - "though she but little, she is fierce"

Our Superstar came home from hospital just before Christmas 2015, not long before her sister was due to join us. Unfortunately another tragedy hit our family and in January 2016 Emily's Mum, her rock, her world (it had always been just her and her Mum) suddenly and tragically passed away. Just 2 weeks before her second granddaughter was born. Our second little bundle of joy was a welcome distraction but there was no time to enjoy her fully with Superstar to look after, funerals to arrange, estates to deal with, intense grief to manage and little to no support.

It seemed our storms would never end and in truth they didn't......what followed included mental health challenges, family issues, more deaths, relationship strains, another complex pregnancy and birth and so much more.......how long were these storms going to last?

The moment we realised that the storms wouldn't stop, was the moment we made the decision to learn to dance in the rain. It's true what they say...."bad days only last until you seek the good within"

We now find gratitude in every day we have, we know there will always be rain but we count our rainbows and see there are more.

Rooted Together was born from our deepest darkest depths of despair, a time where we looked at each other, and together looked up for the first time in a long time and saw the rainbows above us. We realised we had a choice whether to look up, see the rainbows and dance in the rain, or look down at the puddles and see only the storm.

Rooted Together is a culmination of all the resources, tools and support that we used to rebuild ourselves and come back from those storm ridden puddles to sit once again upon our rainbows. We wanted to share all of our knowledge and experience with others and help everyone to find their way to dance in the rain.....
